Baked Beans Recipe

Baked beans are a type of legume dish that is typically made with navy beans, molasses, brown sugar, and a variety of seasonings. The beans are usually soaked in water before being cooked in a sauce made from the other ingredients. Baked beans are often baked in the oven, but they can also be made on the stovetop or in a slow cooker. They are a popular side dish in many parts of the world and are often served with bacon, sausage, or ham. They are also a common ingredient in dishes like beans on toast or baked bean burritos.

Baked Beans recipe
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound dried navy beans
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
  1. Soak the navy beans in water overnight, or for at least 8 hours.
  2. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  3. Drain the soaked beans and place them in a large pot. Add enough water to cover the beans by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 hour, or until the beans are tender.
  4. In a large skillet, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook over medium heat until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  7. When the beans are tender, drain off any excess liquid and transfer the beans to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Add the cooked onion and garlic, cooked bacon, and the brown sugar mixture to the beans. Stir to combine.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 1/2 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce is thick and bubbly.
  9. Serve the baked beans hot, garnished with additional diced bacon if desired. Enjoy!
Notes :

You can also prepare the baked beans in a slow cooker by following the instructions above up until step 7. After adding the beans, onion, garlic, bacon, and sauce to the slow cooker, cover and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or on high heat for 3-4 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce is thick and bubbly.
