Spicy Puffed Rice Poha

I am happy to share one of my favourite puffed rice recipe here. ‘Spicy Puffed Rice Poha’ is one of the most popular dishes in North Karnataka in India. This recipe is considered to be the best option for breakfast in the morning or evening. You can enjoy this delicious dish with pickles or curd. This is a great healthy breakfast you can add to your morning or evening list. Ingredients
  • 250 g Puffed rice
  • 1 cup peanut oil
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons chana dal (split chickpea lentils)
  • 1 tablespoon white urad dal (Black gram lentils with skin removed)
  • 2 tablespoons gram flour
  • 1 tablespoon red chilli powder
  • Salt as needed
  • 2 cups onion
  • 2 cups tomatoes
  • Green chillies as required
  • Curry leaves as required
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • Coriander leaves as required
Recipe Tips
  • To add a sweetness to the dish you can sprinkle Pomegranate / 1 teaspoon honey or any chopped fruit. It will add extra punch in a dish.
  • You can add a grated coconut as a final topping.
Directions

Step 1:

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it crackle. Now add chana dal, urad dal and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 2:

Now add turmeric powder, finely chopped green chillies, curry leaves and finely chopped onion and cook all the ingredients once again for 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 3 :

As soon as the onion turns golden brown, add tomatoes, 1 tsp red chili powder and gram flour and cook well.

Step 4 :

Leave the mixture to cool and wash the puffed rice and add to the prepared mixture. Add coriander leaves and salt to taste and mix well over medium heat.

Step 5 :

Mix well and cook on low flame for 2 minutes. Healthy and Tasty Spicy Puffed Rice Poha is ready! You can enjoy this delicious dish for breakfast in the morning or in the evening. We can taste this dish even while on dieting.
